Keyword Analyzer - Content Optimization & Density Tool

Analyze keyword usage and density in your content. Identify over-optimization, discover keyword opportunities, and optimize for SEO.

Understanding Keyword Density

Keyword density is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears in content compared to the total word count. While it was once a primary ranking factor, modern SEO has evolved. Today, keyword density serves as a guide to ensure natural keyword usage without over-optimization.

The formula is simple: (Number of keyword occurrences × words in keyword) / Total words × 100 = Keyword Density Percentage. For example, if your keyword appears 5 times in a 500-word article, the density is 1%.

Ideal Keyword Density Ranges

  • Primary keyword: 1-3% is generally considered optimal.
  • Secondary keywords: 0.5-1% each supports topical relevance.
  • LSI keywords: Use naturally throughout content.
  • Over-optimization: Density above 4-5% may trigger penalties.

Why Keyword Density Still Matters

While Google has moved beyond simple keyword counting, density analysis helps:

  • Identify keyword stuffing before it becomes a problem.
  • Ensure target keywords appear enough times for relevance.
  • Discover unintentional over-use of certain words.
  • Find opportunities to add more keyword variations.
  • Maintain natural, readable content.

Beyond Simple Density: TF-IDF

Modern SEO tools use TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) instead of simple density. This measures how important a word is to a document relative to a collection of documents. It helps identify whether you're using the same terminology as top-ranking pages.

Keyword Placement Matters

  • Title tag: Include primary keyword near the beginning.
  • H1 heading: Primary keyword should appear here.
  • First paragraph: Mention keyword within first 100 words.
  • Subheadings: Use in H2/H3 tags naturally.
  • Meta description: Include for bold matching in SERPs.
  • Image alt text: Describe images with relevant keywords.
  • URL slug: Use keyword in the URL path.

Signs of Over-Optimization

  • Same keyword appearing in every paragraph.
  • Awkward or unnatural sentence structures.
  • Keyword density above 4-5%.
  • Forced keyword variations that don't read naturally.
  • Keywords disrupting the reading flow.

LSI Keywords and Semantic SEO

LSI (Latent Semantic Indexing) keywords are related terms that help search engines understand your content's context. For example, an article about "apple" might include "iPhone," "MacBook," and "Tim Cook" to signal it's about the company, or "fruit," "orchard," and "nutrition" to signal it's about the food.
