CGPA to Percentage

Convert CGPA to % using common university formulas.

Why Convert CGPA to Percentage?

While many universities use the grading system (CGPA/GPA), some employers and older institutions still ask for the equivalent Percentage marks. Since the two scales are different (one is relative, one is absolute), conversion formulas are needed.

Common Formulas

  • CBSE (9.5 Scale): The most common formula in India for schools. Formula: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. An 8.0 CGPA becomes 76%.
  • Simple Scale (10 Point): Directly converting the ratio. Formula: Percentage = (CGPA / 10) × 100. An 8.0 CGPA becomes 80%.
  • VTU Formula: Used by Visvesvaraya Technological University. Formula: Percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) × 10.
  • Mumbai University: Standard 7-point or 10-point scale formulas vary significantly.

Which One to Use?

Always check the back of your official grade sheet or your university's website. If no specific formula is mentioned, the simple multiplication by 9.5 or 10 is widely accepted as an estimate.
